Wanderers Women Cambridge 7-Aside 2014 Report

The Women’s team could not emulate the success of the Mens 1st team at Cambridge 7’s tourney but then we were playing against A division and Northern League teams. Our best result was against the Northern League team, Glenfield Rovers, where we went down 3-1, however we were really pleased with how our defensive game improved and the unit foiled their attacks time and time again.

Harriet pulled off some impressive saves, supported by Rachel, Hayley, Jess, who were stoic in the backline.

It was a hard day for our mids and front line, lots of running required and ground to cover but Haylee, Monica, Monique, Fleur, Grace and Claire really stuck to task and created chances. A cracking goal from H/Claire against Glenfield off a corner opened their goal account for the season.

Alas we didn’t go through to the semi’s however we had a great day and the spirit is alive and we earned some well deserved compliments on our new gear. Thanks to the club for supporting our participation in the tournament.

Already we are looking like a strong team with stacks of potential success yet to unfold once the season gets underway.
